Rhona Graham

My name is Rhona Graham, I grew up in Skerray and attended Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen where I studied textiles. I returned to Skerray with my husband 11 years ago where we have built our home. I have moved from primarily working with textiles to painting and drawing and my inspiration is the dramatic coastal landscape right outside our house. I enjoy working outdoors, although it can be frustrating! It was refreshing to join the Map Project and return to working with fabric through the long winter months.

I wanted to include all the township names in Skerray on the map even though we didn't have a traditional map layout. I did this by replicating the signposts and using them to create the scales of a mackerel – our most frequently caught fish. I also embroidered a field from my croft depicting all the activities that take place there throughout the year.
